New Yahoo Group for headtilt bunny owners! Come and join us :)
We're a friendly bunch. Just 9 members so far, but we've only been running for about 48 hrs and have lots more people to invite! I'm hoping to create a support network for those caring for headtilt bunnies at all stages, so pop in for advice or to offer help.
OnTheWonk.com is very new (July 2008), so please bear with me while I continue to write the content! I have lots to say and lots of plans for the website, but I have to start somewhere ... Initially, due to popular demand (there are many, many headtilt bunnies out there!), I plan to write a number of short articles on crucial headtilt issues that should help you with particular headtilt problems. But do please feel free to contact me if you would like more help than is currently available online here, or if you would just like someone to listen to what you are going through.
What makes me think I might be able to help you?
Well, I successfully nursed one of my own rabbits, Lara, through a very severe case of headtilt a couple of years ago. It was touch and go and we very nearly lost her. It was an enormous learning curve for me not only about headtilt, but about the importance of a rabbit savvy vet too! I will be uploading Lara's story shortly, plus a daily diary covering her progress and meds. Here you will find all the details of what we went through together.
The whole experience taught me many things that I feel it is essential to share with other rabbit owners - hence the construction of this website. Every piece of info I give here is based on this experience. In addition, I have had a number of people contact me about headtilt, and I must say a big thank you to everyone who has. By sharing your experiences I have been able to build on my experience, which I can then share with others. There are a couple of bunnies in particular who I have offered support to, via their bunny slaves/mums: Sticky Bun and Siouxsie. More info will be included about these two gorgeous bunnies soon!
My background and aims
I must make it clear that I do not have a medical background. I am not a vet. I just want to share knowledge at a general public level. My aim is not to replace the advice of your rabbit-savvy vet. Any information that I share is meant to be complementary to your own rabbit-savvy vet's advice and treatment plan. In time I hope to bring in vets' thoughts on this subject too, and tie in other headtilt resources.
I am determined to do what I can as a rabbit owner, based on my past experience and shared knowledge through a network of headtilt bunny owners and hopefully vets too, to help like-minded people, in our own rabbit-owner language, to increase awareness and knowledge of headtilt and help save more rabbit lives where we can. If you would like to be a part of this then please get in touch. All you have to do is share your experience!
